Fall Classic Game 7 Draws 51 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting extended clash that saw the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined over 50 million spectators in the US, Canada, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball announced this marks the highest-rated World Series Game 7 since the 1991 contest between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable game secured over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition final game between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed 4th, Game 4 was seventh, the fifth game was eighth, and the third game landed in 13th position.

Global Audience Numbers

In Canada, the game averaged 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language program in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12 million. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – recorded 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a single network in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-match series averaged 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership growth for two straight years.

Including the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the complete US average was 16.1 million. The total World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew over 8 million watchers, an 8% rise over last year and the network’s strongest playoff ratings since 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen different tongues.
